Concerts from the Library – Imani Winds with the Catalyst Quartet, Program I
December 10, 2021 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

VIRTUAL PROGRAM
The Imani Winds, one of the world’s great wind quintets, has been adding new works by under-represented voices to the repertoire for this unique ensemble through commissions and advocacy for over two decades. This performance begins with two such works—an arrangement by Valerie Coleman of Mongo Santamaria’s groundbreaking jazz standard Afro Blue and Jason Moran’s deeply personal Cane, inspired by his own family’s pursuit of freedom. In a special collaboration, Imani Winds will be joined by the Catalyst Quartet in a performance of Roberto Sierra’s nonet Concierto de Cámera. Later in the season you will have the chance to hear another collaboration between these two wonderful ensembles—a performance of a recent work by Jessie Montgomery in a concert featuring the Catalyst Quartet.
