My name is Dr. Amber Thornton.

I’m a Clinical Psychologist, Motherhood Wellness Consultant, wife, and mama to 2 amazing little ones.  

Believe it or not, there was a time when I did not think I wanted to become a mother.  I was on a path to building a rich career as a psychologist, I was having the time of my life in a fun city, I was taking excellent care of myself, and had so much I wanted to do.

Unfortunately, I had learned that becoming a mother would mean the end of my fun, my wellness, my attempts to further my career, and ultimately an end to me.  I had been taught that being a mother meant that I had to sacrifice myself in order to raise my family and that scared me, so much so that I did not believe motherhood was for someone like me.

Luck would have it that life changed.  I met my husband and began to wonder if there was a way that I could become a mother and still prioritize the things that mattered so much to me. My health, well-being, career, desires, and needs.  

Balanced Working Mama was born out of my own attempts to redefine motherhood for me.  Throughout my motherhood journey, I’ve been adamant and persistent in keeping myself as a top priority and I know it has enriched this experience and helped me to live a more fulfilling life. 

Motherhood now feels manageable, I am enjoying this life that I have built and now I feel prepared to help other mothers to find the same joy in motherhood.

Balanced Working Mama Mission

My mission is simple: to help working mothers balance work, motherhood, and wellness.

I want to completely change the narrative of what is possible for working mothers.

I will no longer watch mothers sacrifice their health, joy, careers, or happiness for what society has taught us motherhood should be.  I’m committed to rewriting the narrative of motherhood so that we’ll all have a better idea of what motherhood can be— full of joy, good health, time for yourself, passionate work and hobbies, connection to other mamas, and so much more.
