The History of Union Baptist Cemetery: Leaders, Legends & Legacy

Uncover Cincinnati history through the stories of those laid to rest in one of the most important African American cemeteries in this region

Established in 1865, Union Baptist Cemetery is one of the most important African American cemeteries in this region. It is the resting place of Underground Railroad leaders, artists, inventors, athletes, musicians, Civil Rights leaders, and at least 150 veterans of the Civil War. We will hear stories of this place, and of some of the people buried here.

About the speaker:

Chris Hanlin is a local historian and coauthor of Bicycling Through Paradise: Historical Tours around Cincinnati.

Public Health Requirements:

This will be a hybrid program, with limited tickets available for on-site seating (masks required indoors per the Ohio History Connection). It will also be livestreamed online to those who have reserved tickets. Online participants will be able to hear and participate in live Q&A after the lecture.
